I've had the opportunity to expand my networking and professionalism through these three methods of a professional portfolio; personal web site, LinkedIn and Facebook. I will discuss the pros and cons of these portfolios.
(PWP) Personal web page is a professional representation of an individual with a modern and technological advantage. The pros to a PWP is the ability to provide insight, accomplishments, ideas, blogs, and networking to an extreme level. The cons are the continuous maintenance of an online PWP and those online critics who bash your success, in other words, lack of selective audiences.
Facebook is can be used professionally through the use of fan pages or selective use of your personal portfolio. The pros are network expansion and the cons are promoting a negative representation of yourself. LinkedIn is a direct representation of ones resume brought forth with an online professional appeal. Its pros are the ability to network at greater capacities than a traditional black and white paper, providing a stronger network of like minded professionals through online use. The cons are it takes away the traditional experience of representing yourself to an employer and networking with others in person or face to face.
