There are a wide variety of websites that can be used for professional networking. Facebook and LinkedIn being the most popular, but using multiple facets can be beneficial. Present yourself with truth, honesty and discipline; acknowledging your abilities and accomplishments. However, be sure to sell your approach without boasting yourself. Find the balance between your private social life and your professional life. This means be selective on those you connect with. Which ever tool you use, be selective because your audience is always watching. I personally believe Facebook is great for professional networking with the use of fan pages. Private profiles should allow you to connect with your private life and those you personally know and trust. Information about you on either Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or on file should appeal to your audience professionally.
LinkedIn and your resume have a lot in common. They both include your professional summary, experience, skills, contact information, education and important links. Keep in mind there are plenty of things your LinkedIn profile has that need to stay clear of your resume.
