I created two visual resumes because the first one from ResumUP asked for an annual fee after creating it. It was a nice design, very appealing but not worth the fee. Plus it was limited on options as far as sharing or embedding it to my PWP. I found the design on vizualize.me just as appealing without any of the hassle. I linked it to my LinkedIn which made the process very smooth. Hope you like my visual resume. I used survey monkey as my top online survey tool. I found the site easy to use and applicable to all professions. The tools needed to develop precise survey questions were all listed and categorized for you. Just sign up, create, pick, choose, save and link it to your PWP. This could not be easier and the best part is the survey tool requires no fee. I also found a few other great online survey tools, below is a list of three others I'd recommend at the bottom of this page. Many of these sites used to create online survey tools are convenient, easy to use and user friendly. The sites listed provide the tools needed to create the surveys or analyze statistics online. Other great survey tool alternatives with the same goal in mind are listed in the following order with some additional insights listed below: www.freeonlinesurveys.com, www.questionpro.com, www.esurveyspro.net and www.surveygizmo.com Survey Sites: eSurveysPro (http://www.esurveyspro.net/) SurveyGizmo (http://www.surveygizmo.com/) QuestionPro (http://www.questionpro.com/) Tools to Analyze Statistics: Statistics in Sports (http://www.amstat.org/sections/sis/) ERIC Digest (http://www.ericdigests.org/2000-2/resources.htm) Free Statistical Software (http://statpages.org/javasta2.html) Statistical Graphics Resources (http://www.math.yorku.ca/SCS/StatResource.html) Below is a link to my online survey, check it out. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9DVBR28 I've had the opportunity to expand my networking and professionalism through these three methods of a professional portfolio; personal web site, LinkedIn and Facebook. I will discuss the pros and cons of these portfolios. (PWP) Personal web page is a professional representation of an individual with a modern and technological advantage. The pros to a PWP is the ability to provide insight, accomplishments, ideas, blogs, and networking to an extreme level. The cons are the continuous maintenance of an online PWP and those online critics who bash your success, in other words, lack of selective audiences. Facebook is can be used professionally through the use of fan pages or selective use of your personal portfolio. The pros are network expansion and the cons are promoting a negative representation of yourself. LinkedIn is a direct representation of ones resume brought forth with an online professional appeal. Its pros are the ability to network at greater capacities than a traditional black and white paper, providing a stronger network of like minded professionals through online use. The cons are it takes away the traditional experience of representing yourself to an employer and networking with others in person or face to face. Professional networking is important because it allows you to connect with other professionals around the globe in and out of your field. It can be done through several methods old and new. With the use of technology, such as LinkedIn; the process is accelerated so it is important to present yourself in the most professional manor possible without presenting too much irrelevant information. There are a wide variety of websites that can be used for professional networking. Facebook and LinkedIn being the most popular, but using multiple facets can be beneficial. Present yourself with truth, honesty and discipline; acknowledging your abilities and accomplishments. However, be sure to sell your approach without boasting yourself. Find the balance between your private social life and your professional life. This means be selective on those you connect with. Which ever tool you use, be selective because your audience is always watching. I personally believe Facebook is great for professional networking with the use of fan pages. Private profiles should allow you to connect with your private life and those you personally know and trust. Information about you on either Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or on file should appeal to your audience professionally. LinkedIn and your resume have a lot in common. They both include your professional summary, experience, skills, contact information, education and important links. Keep in mind there are plenty of things your LinkedIn profile has that need to stay clear of your resume. http://mashable.com/2012/05/12 /linkedin-profile-resume/ Article One:
WikiWkiWeb: New Ways to Communicate in a Web Environment is an article discussing the use of wiki and the growth in popularity as people explore its potential use. The article includes an overview of the history and development of Wiki introducing basic and advanced Wiki features. It compares multiple Wiki engines and describes seven case studies of real-world library and library-related Wiki applications. The paper concludes with a discussion of factors that can contribute to a successful Wiki project using wiki's such as PmWiki or TikiWiki amongst others listed. Article Two: Use of Wiki's in Graduate Course Work is an article discussing Graduate education in an online environment with the use of course management systems (CMS) such as blackboard. Courses in an online Master’s are using incorporated wikis to support collaboration amongst students. Online collaboration can replicate the expected learning amongst graduate students in on-campus settings. To accomplish this, wiki technology was utilized for collaborative webpages. Collaborative webpages allow all students to contribute to a space that is immediately and automatically updated without having to use typical contribution to content like editing, saving and sending via mail. Instructors and graduate students can make changes as needed, without having to go through channels to update course materials. The use of wikis and blogs on campuses in higher education are increasing with the use of blackboard and webct. This helps keep online graduate students connected as if References: Chawner, B., & Lewis, P. H. (2006). WikiWikiWebs: New Ways to Communicate in a Web Environment. Young Adult Library Services, 4(3), 33-43 Bold, M. (2006). Use of Wikis in Graduate Course Work. Journal of Interactive Learning Research, 17(1), 5-14. What is a Wiki? A wiki is defined on Wikipedia as a web application in which allows people to add, delete, or modify content in collaboration with others. Used as a collaborative educational tool, wiki differs from a blog or most other systems in that the content is created without any defined author. Wikis have little implicit structure, allowing structure to emerge according to the needs of the users. Using a wiki as an educational tool is has its benefits by allowing people or groups to share ideas and important information at their convenience. This eliminates the process of meeting in person or emailing back and forth which saves everyone a lot of time and confusion. With the use of wiki, each person, group member or colleague has access to one document allowing each person to make changes and input as needed. Once the document is finalized, it accessible to everyone, including those who contributed to the final product. Unfortunately, most wikis have open access which can be bad. When allowing anyone to make edits to the document, this can include those people collaborating to your document with no knowledge of the subject. Keep this in mind when searching on wikis for important information. Only use those with credible authors, otherwise the subject matter is merely scattered opinions. This is probably the only downside to wikis. Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org/) |
